What is that noise?!
January 03 2022,
Vehicles are mechanical objects that are comprised of several mechanical parts to help them move, forwards or backwards.
There is always a chance that some of these parts can fail, which is why vehicles are taken to service centers.
Among these parts, if the engine happens to be making certain noises that are unusual, it may be time to take the vehicle for repair. To know more about these noises, read further.
Noises that require Attention
1) Hissing:
A hissing noise can be due to several reasons. It is best to get the vehicle checked by an experienced mechanic.
This sound can be a result of a variety of problems, ranging from the engine being very hot, to the vacuum leaking.
It could even mean leakage of fluid on to hot parts of the engine, or that the catalytic converter is plugged. The leakage of coolant may be yet another reason.
2) Squealing:
If a squealing noise is being heard in the car, it could due to a problem in the vehicle’s brakes. Grinding sounds from the brakes are common, and this happens due to the lack of adequate padding for protection.
Do not ignore this problem, as it may result in brake failure later. When detected early, the only expense would be pad replacement. As the common English proverb goes, “Prevention is better than cure”.
3) Knocking:
This type of sound is connected to the ignition and may signify a problem with the same. The sound is produced when fuel is present inside the cylinder, resulting in the noise. Various reasons could result in ignition problems, including poor fuel injectors, poor spark plugs, or bad distributor caps.
4) Rumbling:
A hole in the vehicle’s muffler could result in a rumbling noise. This is dangerous for passengers since fumes from the fuel could leak into the cabin.
However, if the rumbling sound is coupled with shaking, it could mean that the car has a faulty spark plug, which is making the cylinders misfire.
5) Popping:
A popping sound can be very unsettling in the middle of a long drive. Engine exhaust leaks are likely to cause this problem.
Additionally, it may even be due to a dirty air filter. Be sure to take the vehicle to a mechanic for the correct diagnosis and repair.
Be Careful:
Do not be a person who simply sits in the driver’s seat of a car, turns it on, and drives away every day. It is important to give the vehicle attention on a regular basis.
Keep a watch on the sounds and ensure complete alertness while driving it. Of course, there will always be many days on which there is no time but to sit inside and drive away to reach on time, but there’s be other days too.
Modern cars are many times quieter than the ones which were manufactured in the 1990’s and the early 2000’s. Despite this, rattles and hums will always be there from time to time. Do not unnecessary turn up the stereo volume to ignore such sounds.
