2024 Mazda CX-90: Introducing Electrified Powertrains and Enhanced Performance in Mazda's Flagship Crossover

The Mazda CX-90, built on Mazda's all-new large platform, stands as the company's new flagship vehicle, designed to blend high-performance aesthetics with unparalleled refinement. Prominently, the CX-90 brings to the table all-new electrified powertrains, including an inline six turbo and a plug-in hybrid, enhancing both performance and efficiency.

The innovative CX-90 is powered by two distinctive powertrains. The 3.3L Inline Six e-Skyactiv Turbo engine is the highlight, serving up the highest horsepower and torque (340 hp and 369 lb-ft respectively) from any mass-produced gasoline engine developed by Mazda. To boost efficiency without compromising performance, the engine is equipped with M-Hybrid Boost, a mild-hybrid system. The electric motor is smartly positioned between the engine and transmission, allowing it to power the CX-90 at low speed, creating a smooth acceleration from a standstill.

On the other hand, the e-Skyactiv PHEV powertrain, optimized for the North American market, delivers a high-caliber response and acceleration. With an impressive 323 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, it balances performance and efficiency admirably. Designed to operate purely on the electric motor under various driving scenarios, it's complemented by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine working alongside a 17.8 kWh high-capacity battery for long drives and maximum acceleration.

Jeff Guyton, President and CEO of Mazda North American Operations, highlights the company's commitment to enriching the customer experience through a human-centric approach. The CX-90 is the embodiment of this ethos, with its powerful performance, compelling design, and intuitive technology.

The CX-90 is as thoughtful as it is innovative. The front-engine, rear-wheel-bias longitudinal layout boosts Mazda's signature driving performance. Equipped with Kinematic Posture Control, which debuted on the MX-5 roadster, it suppresses body lift on tight corners to enhance grip and help occupants maintain a natural posture. The entire vehicle body has been optimized for rigidity, with the seats and suspension meticulously designed for better balance, control, and confidence in various driving situations.

The eight-passenger seating layout ensures the CX-90 is ready for family and friends, with an emphasis on cabin space, cargo capacity, safety features, and numerous amenities. Finally, all CX-90 powertrains are matched with an all-new eight-speed automatic transmission, designed specifically for the electrified longitudinal powertrains and large platform vehicles, ensuring smooth and direct acceleration while enhancing drivetrain efficiency. With the launch of the CX-90, Mazda continues its relentless quest for driving excellence.
