2021 Mazda CX-5 vs. 2021 Nissan Rogue: A More Refined Drive

The Mazda CX-5 offers the perfect blend of style, technology and performance in a versatile package that provides plenty of value. But underneath the undeniably beautiful design of the CX-5, drivers can take advantage of unique technologies that contribute to a refined driving experience no other SUV can provide.

Here, we compare the 2021 Mazda CX-5 to the 2021 Nissan Rogue, a rival that has gone through a few changes this year, but still falls short in many categories.

The 2021 Mazda CX-5 offers a better choice of performance levels

The Mazda CX-5 makes performance a priority. That is why it is available with two state-of-the-art powertrains that cater to a variety of needs. The base engine is a 2.5-litre four-cylinder that generates 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque, providing plenty of dynamics for day-to-day driving or for that long-awaited weekend getaway.

For performance enthusiasts that want a sportier SUV, the CX-5 also offers the option of a turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder that produces up to 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque. This powerful unit is standard on the Signature and 100th Anniversary grades and optional with the GT.

Both engines are paired with a quick-shifting 6-speed automatic gearbox with manual-shift mode and Drive Selection switch.

If you look under the hood of the Nissan Rogue, you will find a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine that can only deliver 181 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque. This engine is paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT)

Not only does the CX-5 offer two higher-powered engines in its lineup, but its 6-speed gearbox is much more fun to operate than the Rogue’s anemic CVT.

The 2021 Mazda CX-5 is better at handling the road, and your comfort needs

The CX-5 provides drivers with more confidence on the road with technologies like G-Vectoring Control Plus (GVC+) and the available i-Activ AWD system that monitors the road 280 times by second to proactively make adjustments to enhance traction.

Inside, the CX-5 focuses on driver and passenger comfort with more rear legroom than the Rogue. But it also provides a more premium environment thanks to materials and textures that rival with what you will find in the luxury compact SUVs.
